The Bulldogs traveled to Baton Rouge to compete in the LSU Mardi Gras Classic this past weekend. Although excited to compete in their first ever tournament, the Dawgs found themselves challenged in thier bracket as they battled against some of the top SEC schools in the sport. Their first game closed in a loss against Alabama, scoring 10-25 and 13-25. Unfortunately, the Dawgs did not get a chance to rally back in a third set due to tournament matches consisting of a best two-of-three match. Alabama conintued on the finals where they lost in a competitive match against LSU.
However, Tech fought back with a win against the LSU B-Team in a close match, resulting in scores of 17-25, 25-22, and 16-14. The Dawgs soon after faced another tough opponent: the Auburn A-Team. With the Tigers coming away with two wins back-to-back, they were on a hot streak. With almost no errors offensively, the Tigers beat Tech in both sets 25-8.
Following the loss to Auburn and a much needed lunch break, the Dawgs faced their next opponent in the elemination bracket against none other than the Auburn B-Team. The first set, the Dawgs came away with the first win of 25-18, following a battling loss of 32-30 in the second set. The third set finally came to a close with a score of 11-15; thus, eliminating the Bulldogs from the tournament.
Despite the loss, the Dawgs represented Louisiana Tech with much pride and excitement as they headed home from their first ever tournament. The guys look to bounce back this weekend as they travel to Houston, Texas to compete in their first conference tournamnet.
